Cal Naughton Jr.
1979 Chevy Camaro
Cal Naughton Jr. is the man behind the wheel of the this 1979 Camaro. The car has an Eaton Speed shop built 350ci Chevy with cast iron heads, Edelbrock cam and intake, 600cfm carb and Mallory ignition system. Horses pass through a 3-speed manual tranny and 11” clutch to a 10-bolt axle with 2.73 gears with LSD. Other than traction bars, the chassis remains stock and the shiny sides id finished off in metallic plum purple.
Cal has run his best time of 14.2 at York on 9” slicks -and strong head wind! For 2009, Cal is looking to get a bit more out the motor with new cylinder heads, some weight reduction, put a four speed transmission in and gear it to use more than two gears he says!
Cal is a member of L.E.A.K –Long Eaton American and Kustums and we look forward to welcome him and some other club members in the forthcoming season.
And did I mention that they run under their 'alter-egos'? (Real name Tom Aram). And presumably LEAK is an anagram of international men of mystery.
Cal's been in a mad rush to try and get the car ready to race in A/SS. "Over the winter I've swapped the steel doors (with plastic windows) and wings for fibreglass, I've connected the front and rear subframes but not yet installed the roll cage and relocated the battery."
