Nick Fitt

Ford Mustang

Nick tells us: "I am running a 2005 Mustang. Owned by me since new, I have worked from one end to the other getting it to go quick without throwing a blower at it! I firmly believe these 4.6 3v are not suited to blowers above about 10 psi, below that the performance ain't worth the money! (imho)."

"I have run a 1.78 60' but my personal best is 12.53 seconds @ 112.8mph and an 8.1 seconds at the eighth with an idle 1.9 60'. The car is now a bit lighter too, which should equal loads more fun. I should be able to hit 12.3 if I get my act together! Who knows. I have one big lesson from drag racing and that is that you never go as quick or fast as you feel you deserve to!"

"Mechanically, it has a decent induction and crossed exhaust system, home made with imported bits. I also have some decent cams that don't interfere with the variable cam timing, and a 100 shot of gas. My best normally aspirated is time is 13.07 which is not bad.

"I have a one-piece ally drive shaft with a Truetrac and the stock 8.8" rear end, 31-spline half shafts and a 4.10 gear. This is being swapped to 4.30 this spring, to really get the gears and the cams working together and spending about 12 seconds in harmony at 5.5k rpm to 6.25k rpm! That's master plan (a), master plan (b) is more nitrous! However, the reality is likely to be a cold beer and a deck chair discussing the launch that got away!

"I am a massive fan of the 60s stock classes but as I can only afford one car, this is it! I plan to run at as many of the A/SS events as I can and I want to learn a bit about bracket racing for the King of Europe at Pod this summer.

"My car is getting quicker as I learn about nitrous and I'd like to think I could dial in 12.5 dead -time will tell. At York from memory I should see a few tenths less due to the peculiar weathering of the race surface -ahem."

Or maybe Nick will run quicker at York than at Santa Pod, as some of us do.
